The importance of being double.

One of our lovely customers, Lyndel, sent us this wonderful idea - make holes in old lids with a hammer and nail - these can then be put into the base of the water pot for the wax pot to sit on. This is one of the best tips I've heard in a while! thanks Lyndel.

Now see why....

Boiling point of water? 100° C
Why a double saucepan? The water maintains the temperature of the wax at a maximum of 100° C
Can I short cut in the microwave? No

It's best if the water surrounds the inner wax pot so it doesn't come into direct contact with the heat source.

All wax, fats, oils have a flash point (temperature) when they burst into flames. By keeping our candle wax over water, the wax will never be anywhere near this temperature.
Mostly a simmer which ranges from 80 - just below boil is the safest place to be.
The pour temperature is also dependent on the material of the mould - glass and metal are fine with the higher end, but with PVC you will need the low-range simmer around 80-85°C.
